Church Fire

Dickie's Grove Methodist Church, near Henderson, caught fire yesterday when the floor gave way under the weight of three coffins during a triple funeral. A stove tipped over and started the fire, but a bucket brigade was quickly formed and the fire was out before the Henderson fire department arrived. The Negro congregation was holding services for the three victims of a grade crossing accident: Peter Davis; and his nephew and niece, Tom and Jessie Davis. Another nephew, John Marshall died Monday after falling down a flight of stairs after reading a telegram announcing the Davis' deaths. The three coffins were retrieved unharmed after the fire was put out.
